Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my wanderlust in travel and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

mind is a churnin’

Starting to get into the flow of WFH. I’m not enjoying it but I’ve adapted to what and how I need to function to be productive. I really do need to just have a separate spot to “just work” and then have everything else. That first week of “lockdown” I felt that I was “stuck” in front of the laptop/desk and couldn’t get away. I have now made that mental adjustment to walk away from the computer at a certain time of day and call it a day.

I started blueprinting out the walkway garden for home. And I think it’s feasible and something that can work out. I’ll just need to see if one of the home goods places are open during this time (they still sell essential stuff, right?). This should be a good weekend project for me to work on and potentially get done this weekend - I’m not going out or going anywhere so it’s not like time will be an issue. We shall see.

The other thing I’ve been thinking about is focusing my “free time” during the week. Normally, I would be on the road and using after work hours to explore a city, find a new restaurant to try, or meet up with friends. I want to definitely minimize the time that I’m in front of the laptop and transition to a more productive/self development objective. More to come on this one.

  • Currently watching: Read a book in a day - Nelson Dellis - I was skimming through YouTube and this popped up as a recommended watch. I have wanted to spend more time on skills that will help me in the long run and speed reading isn’t anything new for me. Just one I haven’t spent time on or practicing. But this clip was motivating - guy had previously done some research, entered himself in a competition, and finished third. Then his goal was to read a book on his train ride home from NYC to upstate (about a 3 hour ride). That (leverage travel time to read) is one thing I’ve wanted to be able to do more of. I definitely need to get more heads down and practice. Note to future self: last night’s assessment = 364 WPM.

  • Currently listening: Power Hour on Spotify - It’s a Spotify-created playlist of straight dance/electronic tracks. I haven’t figured out how often they mix up the list, but I put it on random and let it go. There’s 11 hours of music so won’t be able to memorize the list especially when it’s on random.

  • Currently reading: Moonwalking with Einstein by Joshua Foer - I started this last night and finished a chapter. Books starts off focusing on the types of people and looks to get into the methods before closing out on encouragements/motivations. I want to start reading earlier tonight to get through the types and potentially start off one of the methods. And based on my calculations for reading, I need to just dedicate 3 hours of my time this week to finish this one before starting the next book on Monday.

Side note: If I have time, I want to look more into what happened to the 1918 flu that hit the US. How did it originate, how did it spread, how did the US handle it, how was it resolved, what happened to the stock market, what happened to the classes, what happened to corporations/industries. I feel like there are some similarities that can be pulled from that and expectations to plan out for resulting from all this.
