Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my wanderlust in travel and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

work, work, work, work, work, work

work, work, work, work, work, work

Wow - so it’s now May 1st and it’s be 45-ish days since I started quarantining from everything that’s been going on. And it’s been a few days since I posted here… let’s start with the whole WFH situation.

With WFH… this must be the longest I’ve stayed home and not done anything for the longest time. Even when I was school age (elementary > high school), I would at a minimum go to school on the daily. I get why we’re having to do this and how this benefits overall society (Washington Post: flatten the curve simulator, National Geographic: 1918 flu situation) so I plan to do my part and “hunker down” but need to figure out how to switch things up a little bit for my mental well-being. Possibly scheduling more virtual calls with friends or doing some yard work. One key takeaway from this is that I know better what I need. I mean, I always knew I enjoyed being on the go and out/about… so this solidifies it.

With the gap of posts… work has definitely picked up both in hours and the time of day I end up finishing because of the time difference. I have been trying to figure out how best to tailor my schedule to meet client times and it’s surprisingly has had an impact. The biggest area has been trying to figure out how to plan out my evenings because I usually finish up at my desk around 8-9pm local time. And it’s not because I’m trying to make plans with friends, it’s more just figuring out when to feed myself, get a workout in, and have enough time to prepare myself for bed. Sigh… ok. Enough ranting.

With all that said… I am extremely grateful for a lot of things I do have. All my family and friends are healthy and safe. I have a roof over my head and food to eat. I am on a project that hasn’t modified/cut pay or let people go. All the basics are covered when there are so many individuals in the world having a lot less. So while I did spend a little time complaining, I try to come back to the realization and reality on what I do have.

  • Currently watching: The Last Dance via ESPN/Netflix - I started watching The Newsroom via Amazon Prime in the middle of last month but got 2-3 episodes in before I just didn’t have time. I instead started watching the whole Michael Jordan/Chicago Bulls documentary. I only watched the first episode but super excited to watch this end-to-end. The first episode alone brought back a lot of great memories growing up watching basketball every Sunday during the season. And getting the behind-the-scenes look on what was going on during that time is very interesting because I was young kid without a clue all this drama was going on.

  • Currently listening: Relaxing Jazz Radio via Cafe Music BGM Channel - Found YouTube channels playing live music… I suppose I could do the equivalent on either Spotify or Apple Music. I kinda like having the visual going as well even though it’s probably a 5 second clip on a loop. Just have more hip hop jazz streaming in the background (while I work). One of the things I’ll be looking to do more once things are lifted is to check out more jazz shows and relax to the music. And concerts… I’ve found a bunch of new artists through Apple and Spotify’s weekly discoveries/mixes. They’ve both been spot on where I’ve unintentionally been swaying to the music.

  • Currently reading: Moonwalking with Einstein by Joshua Foer - No progress. 😞 I’m going to try and quickly close this out and move over to a fiction book vs non-fiction/self-help material. Get a little variety into what I watch/read outside of work.
